Episode reaction, SPN 820

OK, I thought it would be enough, to express my feelings re this episode, to just emit a high pitched eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee for a couple of hours. But no. No. This episode is made of awesome. It is all – so – so many awesomethings. My neighbors would probably like to request more episodes like the one with the werewolves in the beginning of the season.
I'm just happy. And content. ish.

There should be fic:
~Charlie reading slash. Of course she knows about slash, she'll check whether there is any, and at the very least get a kick out of it. Also - I don't feel it'd be anti-lesbian if she like-liked it. So many lesbian slashers. Actually, she said she didn't want to miss the brother's talk. She is so reading slash already.
~Dean watched Kevin on the cams.
~Boys going to Charlie's Midyear Jubilee, like Dean promised.
~12 year old Charlie
~Anybody getting off on that Your Highness thing
~Dean and Charlie have lunch, the scene we didn't get in the middle on the ep.

ETA:
I say Kevin's so twitchy around the boys cause he's been writing the next books, now that Chuck's gone.
So he's been writing about Cas. Being dreamy.
Which means Kevin/Cas. As well as Becky/Cas, which might work, maybe...

Things:

12 year old opinionated, flaming liberal, gamer hacker Charlie, omg.

Sam's bed hair. Ugh, Sam's hair. Really, generally Sam. Mmm.
He's gorgeous lately. And Jared's acting is awesome.

Dean bitching about Sam's hair.

Dean tossing Sam that beer - LOL
Payoff of so many seasons of unnaturally graceful beer handling.
Made me laugh so much I had to stop watching. Even in the rewatch. Sam's reaction is priceless. Reminded me of this.
Also, "That's why we don't have nice things". Such a fic line, too. Perhaps Dean'd been listening to podfic while watching those hacked cameras.

For all her awesome relationship with Dean, Charlie e-mailed Sam. Shouldn't neglect that relationship either.

Way more hugs these days, than perhaps all of the hugs in the first seven season combined. I *love* that. Adore it.
Need it. It's so good.
All Dean needs in order to allow himself to be huggy and emotionally open and sweet is for people around him (other than Sam) to encourage it.

I'm liking the mandatory Charlie-Dean girltalk while they try on clothes.

Reading the books taught Charlie that there is nothing the Winchesters can't face if they work together.
Except for bunnies.

More of the Batcave! And a long sexy shot of the Impala!
Perhaps they make a point of doing both, like they make a point of giving both Destiel and Wincest shippers something to squee about, every time.

That montage. Awesome, so awesome. Was confused and amused by the Pretty Woman reference. Glad to see that unlike Vivian, Charlie got to keep having a head.
Literally shrieking at the screen dude!111

I am so holding Show to Charlie being things awesome that are not sexual. Was worried she'd make a pass at the djinn. Talking clothes is still "girl", but way way better. Thanks.

Dean flirting with a woman to get his way and, and she not tipping off-balance by his pretty pretty eyelashes - made my day.
Way better than that poor PHD candidate giggling helplessly at the hotness of Sam.

Who's been coloring Charlie's mother's hair?
Wait a minute - Crowley?!

Dean finding nightmare Sammy would have had more emotional impact on me, had there been a proper season arc.
Also, I the trailer had way more emotional impact on me. Turns out it was simply a different take.

I like that Show tries to address the sexism of MOL. There is way more to it, but that was awesome and unexpected, thanks!

OK, the whole "your highness" thing is starting to give me BDSM happies :)

Charlie read the books. Oh, oh, oh.
Please let her talk about slash.
Also, ask about the amulet. Pleaseplease.

I love that the game looked game-y.

Stupid!Sam doing research. No. But research tool envy - awesome.

Huh, Sam obediently tried to shoot the target till he managed before allowing himself to go on the case?

"Don't quote me to me"!Eeeeeeee!

Everyone going around yelling "Charlie"? Took me to this.

"That is some meta-madness" - Now more than before. Write fic, Charlie! About French Mistake!

Why would 12 year old Charlie imagine vampires the way they are in SPN, and in no other place?

Sam should have gone into Charlie's dream with Dean as the backup, cause of exactly what happened. Also, when have we last seen Sam do something like that on his own?

The Winchester hug in the end was one of the best things Show could have given me. Thanks, show!
Also, it was a romantic comedy trope, being kissed silent. Which was very present there.

I'm gonna yell forever! For a while .

Sam's bed hair.

Yep! Sick!Sam in general is a thing of beauty . . . why is he so much prettier sick than the rest of us are healthy?

I say Kevin's so twitchy around the boys cause he's been writing the next books, now that Chuck's gone.

Hmm. Excellent point. I was trying to figure out how Charlie could know about Cas if the Carver Edlund books ended with S3. Clearly Kevin has been supplementing them with Cas-centric slash fic. Personally, I vote for a Kevin/Cas/Sam OT3. Possibly with an occasional drop in by Inias :)

Huggy Dean is the best Dean! I love how much healthier and warmer he's been in S8. Dean in the previous three seasons was so sad it was sometimes hard for me to watch him. His friendship with Benny really seemed to help him--he seemed very open in that relationship, and then that carried over into how he related to everyone else.

Cause TV. But also cause we love him. And also cause when he is sick he relaxes his face, and that's gorgeous, and then he wears less, and he lets his mouth fall open, and his voice gets all raspy, and his hair is messy, and also he allows himself to be cared for, touched more - and is touched more by Dean - and he has fewer walls up, and it shows in the way he moves and the way he is softer with others Dean - knfdszkndsv.

Yes!!!

You know, I've never read him!

Yes. in LARP he started smiling those compassionate, mollified smiles I have never seen on Dean before (seen Jensen smile such smiles, though), and has been. And I'm breathing better ever since...

I really feel like the writers decided to sort of deeply fix some of the things about the boys' lives that need to be fixed. Over however long they'd get. So the good place to live, a way for Sam to be involved in "the life" but also study, the brothers approving of each other, a couple of times, even, having (chosen) family and someone to talk to in Charlie, the whole thing about light at the end of the tunnel and finding a way to happily live together which I and still all set to start jumping around about (but fg is sleeping) - and now this.
It truly felt to me like it was something they won't be the same again after. The world changed, and now that option is in it. Mountains of fic just waiting for that, and not believing it'd ever happen in canon...

YES. Oh, Deeeeeeeeen <3

His friendship with Benny really seemed to help him--he seemed very open in that relationship, and then that carried over into how he related to everyone else.

I love that interpretation. Gotta admit, though, that I felt it differently.
To me it was more like - The season started, and everything was bleak and horrible, Dean/Jensen looked bummed out *all the time*, even in Jensen's behind the scenes interviews, and I thought I'd fallen in love with the show just in time to watch it die painfully. And then came the last scene of 810, and somehow the world flipped, the show flipped, it's just completely different. Thankfully.

Yes! The softness and the vulnerability is so beautiful. So are the gray t-shirts he's wearing all the time now. ;) And the bedhead is epic.

It does seem like the writers decided to break out of some of the show's more punishing feedback loops of pain, which is a relief. On the other hand, I'm a little afraid that they only gave us the batcave so that we'd learn to love it before they burned it down, and Sam would be forced to learn yet again that there is no middle road. I hope I'm wrong.

See, Dean seemed different to me from 8.01 on. He's very warm with Benny all along, and he seems more understanding with the people of the week--he's sympathetic with the old woman who'd married the Aztec god, and he was willing to let the werewolf girl go, as opposed to his reaction to Amy last season. And when Cas came back Dean got him to talk about his feelings in 8.08, which isn't necessarily a very Dean thing to do. Plus, the heavy drinking had stopped.

The last scene of 8.10 actually broke my heart when it aired. The two of them seemed like a married couple who're only staying together because they don't have the energy for a divorce. I found 8.11 and what came after sort of whiplash inducing because it didn't feel to me like a natural progression of their relationship, but I'm so happy about the positivity of the second half of the season that I'm willing to let it go.

Honestly, the Batcave is a little bit over the top. It's up there with the TARDIS. I loe the boys enough to be willing to let go of the whole "we have nothing in the world, but it's OK as long as we have each other", and be happy with them having a bunch of good stuff and still loving each other. Even if it means they are no longer as desperately broke as I can be.

But one thing I *really* dislike in this season (warning, grumbles ahead), is that the boys seem to be taking their "rightful" place as, IDK, baby patriarchs. Dean was always *always* outside of society. Even when he was sexist etc. - it was in a way he considered to be "bad boy". But this season, the oys and particularly Dean feel it's their place to come into town, expect to get answers and explanations for people about their lifestyles, and see it as their role, as representatives of social order to decide what's right. It was pretty present in Freaks and Geeks, deciding whether it's a good way for kids to grow up or not way before there was suspicion of evil, as if it was their place in any way. And I could have smacked Dean in Man's Best Friend. Both Sam and him objectified Portia and treated her very disrespectfully. But Dean, after almost *killing her life partner* just in case, saw no problem with demanding Portia answered his condescending, very personal, nosy questions about her life. WTF.

Anyway - since they started behaving like this around the time they got the Batcave, I'm comfortable wanking it into "the boys are becoming hegemonic".

Sam would be forced to learn yet again that there is no middle road. I hope I'm wrong

*groan*
Not again...

But even if so - just to have something for the next season...
They were, btw, told to destroy the place (I thought the Golem would stay inside, to care for it), and just went ahead and forgot about that, not followup, even.
Perhaps it'll still come.

See, Dean seemed different to me from 8.01 on. Hmm... that is also all true.
Especially the feels parts, with Benny and with Cas <3
oh, feeling Dean. You are wonderful <3

Me too, but I saw it differently. To me, that was the beginning of what came next (though it was ridiculously unexpected). Sam *chose* Dean. He had a very good alternative, to him. A normal life with a woman he loved. But still he chose Dean - finally, for the first time since forever chose life with Dean. And I feel that changed Dean, to finally stop being terrified Sam wanted to leave him for a normal life. To finally know (ish) that Sam was there with him, not cause Dean manipulated him into it, and not cause he had to save the world or was falling apart or something - but cause that's what Sam chose for himself. Not even casue he was that worried about Dean - he knew Dean had Benny. Sam chose him, and now he could take a breath and just get better, in so many little ways. Could finally approve of what Sam was doing, for the first time in forever (that "You're a MOL now" scene). Could be playful again.

I found 8.11 and what came after sort of whiplash inducing because it didn't feel to me like a natural progression of their relationship, but I'm so happy about the positivity of the second half of the season that I'm willing to let it go

EXACTLY.
That's what I meant.
